The\u00a0Drakensberg<\/b>\u00a0(Afrikaans<\/a>: Drakensberge,\u00a0Zulu<\/a>: uKhahlamba,\u00a0Sotho<\/a>: Maluti) is the eastern portion of the\u00a0Great Escarpment<\/a>, which encloses the central\u00a0Southern African<\/a>\u00a0plateau. The Great Escarpment reaches its greatest elevation \u2013 2,000 to 3,482 metres (6,562 to 11,424 feet) within the border region of\u00a0South Africa<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Lesotho<\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Drakensberg escarpment stretches for more than 1,000 kilometres (600 miles) from the\u00a0Eastern Cape Province<\/a>\u00a0in the South, then successively forms, in order from south to north, the border between\u00a0Lesotho<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Eastern Cape<\/a>\u00a0and the border between Lesotho and\u00a0KwaZulu-Natal Province<\/a>. Thereafter it forms the border between KwaZulu-Natal and the\u00a0Free State<\/a>, and next as the border between KwaZulu-Natal and\u00a0Mpumalanga Province<\/a>. The escarpment winds north from there, through Mpumalanga, where it includes features such as the\u00a0Blyde River Canyon<\/a>,\u00a0Three Rondavels<\/a>, and\u00a0God’s Window<\/a>. It then extends farther north to\u00a0Hoedspruit<\/a>\u00a0in southeastern Limpopo where it is known as ‘Klein Drankensberg’ by the\u00a0Afrikaner<\/a>. From Hoedspruit it extends west to\u00a0Tzaneen<\/a>, also in\u00a0Limpopo Province<\/a>, where it is known as the\u00a0Wolkberg<\/a>\u00a0Mountains<\/a>\u00a0and Iron Crown Mountain. At 2,200\u00a0m (7,200\u00a0ft) above sea level, the Wolkberg is the highest elevation in Limpopo. The escarpment extends west again and at\u00a0Mokopane<\/a>\u00a0it is known as the Strydpoort Mountains.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/details>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
